Game difficulty

I'm in the middle (like 3rd mission) of Campaign 2, having continued over from campaign 1.

My question is: Does the game difficulty dynamically change depending on your level or on your ship or what?

I've got a Battleship-class vessel now, and I'm finding myself going up against multiple enemy battleships and even a carrier or two in J.Random missions, and I'm getting killed every time. If I restarted Campaign 2 from scratch, would it be easier?

Also, minor gripes:
Little explanation on differences between ship components - for exampple, in what way are Phased Shields better/worse than Standard?

Re: Game difficulty

The enemy ships will be a similar strength relative to you.
You have to watch out for the numbers advantage, still.

Phased shields will block Phased Polaron Beams in addition to regular weapons.
You currently need all of the generators on your ship to be phased in order to get the phased protection bonus.

Re: Game difficulty

The "phased shields don't work" bug got fixed?

Re: Game difficulty

They do work, its just that:
1) The pirates are using Tachyon Cannons (Not PPB) in stock. One of the alien races do use them, IIRC.
2) All shields must be phased in order to recieve the phased effect (ship-wide)
