Damn SF CD

I seem to have the problem Cold Steel had my self ( with the SF CD ). Except that i can run the game but it still makes a HELL of a noice..

I copied the CD and I run it from the copy since i am scared it will explode and i can;t stand the noise
The coping took a LOT (20 minutes)on my TEAC 52x - 24x - 52x...
.. I will make some sort of Virtucal Copy but that is not the problem..

The fact is that ya people make crappy CD's... I have a fried who has the SAME problem.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Either ya people send the crappy and mis-wrote CD's to Romania or the manufacturion factory is crappy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Did you download the patch? The CD issue was traced down to a problem with the CD checker.

Yes i did and of course it still made those load noises...
I doubt it before the patch would ahve any effect becuase it does that noise anywhere (even when my computer boots and reads from the CD-ROM(CD-RW) to search for boot sector)

Just created a virtual cd, it will solve all your problems and is completely legal as you own the actual game (unless shapnel and MM says otherwise), just if you get rid of the game you HAVE to delete the v-cd off your hdd or you will be breaking the law

No that's fine, and I amd not sure that it is a bad CD. But you could always put in a request for a new CD. Just go to our customer support area.

BTW we haven't received large numbers of complaints over the CD issue.

NO that's fine... just wanted to draw your attention that some of your CD's ( a bit too many ) have errors...

Sending it from Romania to America and waiting etc etc would take too long... i think i will keep this CD

Thanks for your attention

Taz also had a CD that 'makes noise' in the drive. (Pre AND post patch) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
However I made a 'backup' copy and via backup 'magic', I am now noise free! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

A backup is a good practice anyway! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: Damn SF CD

Yeah, but some companies (eg. Sigames) are making back-ups, cd-cracks and cd images against their EULA cos they think it will stamp out piracy (thick fools lol)
Problem is some companies atually believe it works (somehow they fail to consider that their game might not even be good enuf to pirate) so they continue doing it
This however is bad for the consumer as CDs are esily damaged, even if your cd-drive goes a tad too fast, so you have to either cough up more money for a replacement or not be able to play the game again without breaking the law
And they say piracy is destroying the game market, perhaps they should take a closer look at some of their own techniques

Actually I shall give an example

UFO: Aftermath's anti-piracy technology is so strict that I have no choice but to use a cd-crack just cos the game wont play without it, cos if you have a virtual drive or anything that is believe by the game as piracy the CD will not start after you have installed

Now while this is a good way of combating piracy, those of us that use v-cds as a way of preserving these cherished games are suffering

Re: Damn SF CD

Deadzone, I had a similar problem with Aftermath, in that it detected a virtual CD was being used and wouldnt run from the image. It did work if you put the CD in the drive though, but my CD drive vibrates so much I really worry for things I put in there for extended amounts of time. Funny thing was, I couldnt find a crack for it!

So being a computing student, I decided to learn how to crack games myself! I was amazed how easy it was with just a couple of tools. SecuROM have made a (moraly sound (I hope!)) pirate out of me > :(
