Modding - Components File

Ok, one of the many mnay things I want to implement in a mod I will never have time to make are spinal mount weapons - Need a special weapon slot, very heavy, huge range, huge damage, and will drain your ship so low on energy that it stops moving and your shields fail (because engines and shields will be using power perhaps - its all early days). That is unless you found a hidden warp gate that took you to a system where an archialogical dig site has unearthed a number of crazy alien artifacts and are willing to fit your ship with some kit (like and alien reactor) for extortionate prices...or something.

Anyways, I was testing out power consumption, and I cant get it very high. If I set it to 200, it thinks its 20, and if I set it to 2000, it doesnt take any power to reload the weapon. Has anyone had any luck making insane power consumptions, or is something to add to the wishlist? (farewell spinal mount http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif )

Keep in mind that the displayed power consumption is NOT the same value as displayed in the text file. It is power consumption/reload time.

EDIT: just tested it, and 2000 worked fine..

Now why did that not work half a hour ago??? I can only guess I didnt save the components file after changing things lol. Worked just as I planned too. Huge amount of damage, then energy reserves plummeted http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

No i'll just go see if engines and shields stop working if they have no power...

They don't. The only thing that requires power is weapons. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif (though that does include point defense..)
