Various Fighters Same or Different?
 

I'm still in Campaign 1, and still learning the ropes. I've managed to earn enough money to upgrade to a Terran Cruiser, and I'm experimenting with different ship configurations. One thing I can't figure out: are there differences between the various Fighters (e.g. Xiati Fighter vs Terran Fighter vs Pirate Fighter, etc), or are they basically the same thing?

There are differences between the fighters of various races. The fighters of each race have different weapons. For example, the Terran fighters have an Anti-Proton Beam, while the Xiati Fighters carry a Meson BLaster. Other than that, I don't think there are any differences between fighters. The armor and shielding may also vary, but I'm not sure about that. If you have Long Range Scanners on your ship you can scan fighters and see the configuration of their ships, including armor, shields, and weapons.
