Ship Direction heading. indicator
Your ship heading is indicated in degrees from 0-360 on meter display.
Is there a way to mod this to make it show the letter N for 0 E for 90 S for 180 W for 270 ? If it's possible I would also like to mod the following NE for 45 SE for 135 SW for 225 NW for 315 Heh, I keep finding myself flying in circles because I'm more used to thinking in compass directions instead or degrees. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I've looked through the Images Directory for those numbers but found nothing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
Oh, if that isn't possible. Is there a way to modify your ship's blip on the whole systems map to something more like a isosceles triangle with the acute part pointing in the direction you're heading <triangle with two sides of equal length> instead of a square dot?
The reason i asked the above question is because I didn't see any Posts that said you can increase the range of your 300, 150, and 50 radar. |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
It is a triangle, you're just too zoomed out to tell. If you bring up the full screen map and zoom in on your ship, it'll have a triangle pointing in the direction you're going.

Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
I would actually like to see my heading in reference to whole system on the mini map on the lower right as I'm flying around rather than zoom in on the full screen map and just sitting there.
if only I can enlarge my blip on the mini map, it would be perfect. But I think it's hardcoded. Maybe one of these patches will change it .}> |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
Actually, you can press 'R' key to see your heading, then press it 3 more times to go back to system display.
That's easy! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
I know about the "R" Key and the Zoominng feature. I just want something that tells me which way my ship is facing and show the whole system map without having to go into full screen mode. Maybe my first post wasn't clear enough.
I would like to be able able to change the directional indictor, if possible, from 0 degrees to letter N for North 90 degrees to letter E for East 180 degrees to letter S for South 270 degrees to letter W for West The thing I'm trying to do is be able to fly around with the whole system mini map on, and see where I'm heading relative to the whole system wihtout having to switch back and forth between different map/radar views. On the mini mode my ship is just a dot and unless I go to full screen and zoom or change radar mode, I can't tell which way I'm facing. The ship heading is already indicated in degrees but for most games, I'm used to playing with compass directions, not angular degrees. When drivng around or giving directions, you don't tell someone go 0 or 180 dgrees on a north/south bound highway. I guess there's no way to do this because it's probably hardcoded, but thanks for the suggestions and for trying to help. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
Hey! Pretend you're a ship's captain! Don't be so analytical! When you pop into a system, do a quick "C" and orientate (is that a word?) yourself:"Hmmmm... The stars are here, the two red clouds are there, and here's another friggin asteroid belt...." Then just fly by "terrain association" like a pilot would have to do!

Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
yeah, i navagate by the nebulae, mostly
the system scanners wont pick up planets? is there anyway to increase the base radar range? |
Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
Not that I know of; 75/150/300ls seem to be hardcoded ranges. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Ship Direction heading. indicator
You can increase the range you detect things at, though. Its in playerstartingships and purchaseshipsplayer text files.
Note that if you give a radar range beyond 300ls, it will work but the zoomed-in view won't show you anything past it- you'll have to use the minimap or full screen map. |
