Diplomacy/Intelligence Suggestion

I was wondering if it would be feasible to to do something like MOO2, where if you used biological weapons or the like the other AI's would frown on it. Only I propose a slight twist...Every 'bad' thing you do would be stored in a .txt file(Spacing populations/plague bombing planets/etc...)the 'atrocities' file(no offense to our dear friend and forum brother Atrocities;-)...and this would become another intelligence op. This op would have to do with uncovering 'dirt' about other empires to discredit them with the rest of the empires. Perhaps these incidents could be uncovered by chance as well, therefore creating incentive not to do them. But with yet another twist, you could have it so that, depending on happiness types demeanors and cultures, some Empires might not be bothered by such things...

I'm still wrestling with this in my head...but it's an idea...

Why thank you. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Your idea would give me my own file on each and everyone of your computers. Thats an idea I can live with. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Honestly, its a great idea. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I think that an "atrocities" file that stored all the "evil and bad" things you do would be a tremedous assest to the political aspects of this game.

In addition, I think it would be advantagous to the game if we had positive random events as well. I know this is a tangent idea, but what better place to post it than here? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Right now, all the random events are negative. I would like to see postive random events. IE, you discovered a derelect and gained such and such technology. A planet has produced more than expected. Things like that.

I really would like some form of atrocities in the game. It would give you incentives to capture planets, not destroy them. It would hopefully drastically affect relations with other empires, etc.
And as for events, I totally agree that there should be good events. I also think there should be mixed events. Say a large asteroid crashes into your colony, killing 100M people, but the value of the planet increased by 100% or so in each Category. That would really be nice.

Even better, let's change "demeanor" from a fixed setting to a sliding scale like "anger level". When you do "friendly" things like enter into treaties or give gifts your demeanor moves up the scale, and when you do evil things your demeanor slides down the scale. Then the AIs can react directly to your demeanor as it is your "reputation"! Different acts would have different degrees of effect, of course. When you glass a planet that ought to require several gifts or treaties to bring demeanor back up to "neutral" again.

Re: Diplomacy/Intelligence Suggestion

Yeahm this would be cool. Get rid of demeanor and change it to "Reputation", your relationship with other empires would depend on your reputation. Then you could have tolerance ranges and such...several empires with reputations as bullies could join together, etc...

These are all good ideas. The atrocities your empire commit do they effect your populations happiness and ,as such ,production?

Frankly, I think there should also be racial traits governing what sort of things you can do. Anything too evil for your race & your troops won't obey the order. Remember your classic Star Trek: Captain Garth ordered his Federation starship crew to genocide a planet that had offended him, and the crew relieved him & the Federation locked him in a special max security looney bin. However, in the "Mirror" universe the "Evil" Captain Kirk was ordered by the Federations evil-twin Empire to nuke a planet if it didn't fork over the dilithium crystals, and "our" Captain Kirk masquarading as the "Evil" one faced potential mutiny from his own crew for stalling. Since there is a game advantage to doing "evil" things, the racial traits which allow them should cost points. That way it can be balanced.

I'd say it depends on whether you used an atrocities file or the reputation system. With the atrocicites file, no the population wouldn't be affected unless your evil deeds were uncovered by a special intelligence op by an opposing empire. With the reputation system I'd say it would have to depend on your happiness type, ie...bloodthirsty pops would be less enraged by heinous acts than a peaceful or neutral happiness type.
