Off-Topic, but interesting: Half Life 2 source code leak!

This is incredible, the HL2 source code has been leaked! It is 43 Mb totally.

Check out the article here:

The code is already on the net, IRC and on FTPs. Poor Valve. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Sad that it happened, but their own stupid fault for using dev machines for general net access and being fool enough to use a Outlook for a mail client. On the IT security level, they got exactly what they were asking for, but unfortunately it also means their whole work being partially compromised and probably ripped off in the future.

Yeah, that was the biggest fault by game devs what I ever seen in gaming history. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Yeah...when you're making the game that would be voted most likely to draw the interest of lots of hackers you don't want to be loose on your security AT ALL.

Illwinter better make sure they're secure...you know that Dominions 2 is number 2 on the "Source codes to steal" list. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Actually that would be really sad. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
Why in the world would you steal source code for a game anyway? Either they find you and you lose or they don't and you still havent gained anything.
I hope this doesn't slow down the release of HL2 too much...even though my computer can't run it because my 3d card is horribly out of date.
Hmm...release delay means more time for 3d card prices to drop...

The topic is closed now, guess it would have too many replies in a few days. [Propably thousands.]

Well why did they stole it? [Who??? I think that there is no way to figure out that who stole it.]

1. Valve was total stupid to store the source code on a comp, what was connected to the net. This is the stupidest thing what I ever heard...

2. I am almost sure, that the HL2 authentication @ Cd-key system is broken now, since the source code must contain these datas. -> This is the worst nightmare for Valve.

Well I'd think they could make another cd-key authentication system...and honestly I'd imagine any cd-key system they make won't exactly Last forever anyway.
But yes...storing the entire source code on a internet linked computer running Windows of all operating systems. Not that there's anything wrong with Windows except that most people use it so there's a lot of people out there finding security flaws in it.
