Dom 1 units same in Dom 2...

I'm sure this has been covered but I've played Dom 1 a bit off and on over the Last few years but plan on buying Dom 2 and want to really get into it.

My question is:

Can I do a lot of reading and studying of the Dom 1 units in the spreadsheets so I can be familiar with the units and Gods. Or, are a lot of the units going to be different or have different stats so its just a waste of time?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Most have very similar stats and abilities, some have changed however. Same goes for spells, but some of those have been altered as well.
