Constructing buildings
I'm sorry if this has been asked and addressed elsewhere on in the forums, but here goes:
I started playing the demo the other day (no experience what-so-ever with DOM I). So I followed the, very brief, quick start. Shortly after starting, an earthquake destroyed my temple. Is it a limitation of the demo that I can't build a temple? Every unit only had the option to destroy the two buildings in the province. Or do I need a priest in order to build a temple (which would seem silly to me, that'd be like saying the only way to build a college would be to have a college-educated person when there are no colleges yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )? Anyway, I appreciate whatever help there is to be had on the question. |

Earthquake on the first turn really sucks, I got it too, and if not for the fact that I had recruited a priest I would have been unable to build any temples ever! |
Re: Constructing buildings
You can allways appoint a commander to your prophet and use him to build temples.

Can the Ulm Pretender (which is what is suggested in the quick start) build temples? If not then that would explain it. Otherwise I dunno... my Pretender could build Labs just fine, but never had the option for a Temple. [ October 30, 2003, 23:21: Message edited by: Cameroon ] |

There are also some mercenary priests - Giuseppe del Migo, for example - and you can hire one of them and have him build a temple. There is a third solution that isn't available in the demo - some summoned creatures have priest powers and can build temples. (Harbinger, Archangel (of the Host) and Couatl are the only ones I know of in Dom I, but there may be more in Dom II.) Similarly you need a mage to build a lab, and need a lab to recruit a mage - but your god is usually a mage and can build labs. Also there are a lot more mercenary mages than mercenary priests. Summoning doesn't help because you would need a mage to summon anything. But for lack of mages there is a fourth solution - empowerment. If you have enough gems or blood slaves you can make any commander a mage. Finally, for completeness, any commander can build a fortress. |
Re: Constructing buildings
I suppose that building a temple is not only building the masonry of it. It is also how to create and organize the clergy which comes with. This is why you need a priest, and not just Joe the commander.
And Gods dont worships themselves (and dont even exists - in dominions anyway - if nobody believe in them). So they wont create a temple for themselves too. But as others said, there is several solution even if you had no initial priest available. |

But if it is really a problem for you, you may always destroy this temple in the first turn, and then rebuild it later. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Good luck with the game! [ October 31, 2003, 13:09: Message edited by: Alneyan ] |
