AI is better than I thought...

Maybe it's because I am a horrible player but the AI killed me on 3 consecutive games.

In all cases, it was Ermor who stuck the nail in the coffin. I play Jotunheim (with Neifel theme) & I guess I cannot make enough priests with the high cost for the race. I have no problem with any other race (except maybe the Illithid one) but Ermor kicks my *** every time. Any suggestions?

I've had the stuffing kicked out of me on every SP game with the other players set to impossible. But, the Last game was not so bad... I'm getting the hang of the carrion woods theme. I may be able to win the next one if I get a good start.

Ermor has natural balances in the game. Find someone like Pythium or Marignon and hide behind them. I even send Marignon things like "herald lances" and that cauldron of food so they can battle Ermor. I know I can defeat them later easier than I could defeat Ermor

It seems like it's mainly the expert Doms I players and Supercombattant munchkins who are having an easy time with the Doms II AI.

As Jotunheim against Ermor (assuming large undead armies), I would forget about hiring giants until I had enough priests - at least one per border province, preferably 2-4 or more for taking on a major Ermor army. Have the troops hold their position, to maximize the time that you can banish.

Huh?

How can you send competing nations things in a single player game? I thought there was no diplomacy in DOM II?

Thanks. I should have told my troops to sit still as long as possible. I just let the tactical AI do whatever it wants. But I should do more scripting v. Ermor.

Check the message menu. The AI might not improve its opinion of you (I dont know for sure) but you can send money, gems, items. Its a way to boost the nations you know you can beat. Let them beat the ones they can beat that you cant.
Its a deep and well balanced game.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I'm not trying to claim myself too much of an expert. But I don't even think the Dom 1 experts are having a very easy time with the AIs.

For example, to me, it's more that I've known about the limitations of the the AIs and not really excited about beating them. I could defeat the AIs in most situations but it's not really the forcus http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . Even for me, there are settings in which the AIs could give me some very hard time, e.g., a crowded map with impossible AIs and indie of 5 to 6.

Yes so much of the SP challenge depends on what conditions you select to play with. Its painfully easy to handicap the game so that *you* have a large advantage, and I'm not even talking about using 'cheese' tactics on the AI.

The other side of the coin is to set up the game so that you have a disadvantage, or to force yourself to not use certain tactics that the AI can't handle. I know that some people can't get past using every weapon at their disposal, no matter how 'cheesy' some may be, but that doesn't mean that you can't have a meaningful SP experience...
