am I too late?

Are there any MP games with slots still open?

my internet connection was down for a couple of weeks and so I missed my opportunity, I fear.

If you have an IRC client, log onto IRCnet channel #Dom2 - you can sometimes find people there looking to play quickie "blitz" games. The best time is weekends or evenings USA east coast time.

A game I'm in may be about to restart and, if it does, there will be plenty of room for extra players. Keep an eye on the thread "New MWF Network Game Starting ".
