How is the documentation?

After my Last 2 purchases of games with steep learning curves and crummy docs (Pax Romana and Victoria) I really don't want to go through it again. What kind of documentation comes with the full Version (both hard copy and .pdf) and how useful is it?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">The documentation is solid and extremely useful. I never played Dominions and came fresh to Dominions II. As such, I had a difficult time at first understanding why the documentation was set up with so much space devoted to spells and items. Now that I've played a bit, it makes sense. I wish there had been space in the manual for every race/unit/equipment combo, but hey, there ain't.

If steep learning curves are a game killer for you you're probably going to want to look elsewhere. There's a ton of game here, but you need to invest a lot of hours into it. It took me about a dozen hours with the game before my pretender/race combinations made some sort of sense. Heh, but it was WORTH it!

It doesnt get the highest marks. The game is created by a couple of programmers who do great work at it (programming the game that is). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

However the player base makes a strong effort to fix the docs. There are user created walk thrus, and unit lists, and of course if you read thru some of the stuff on this forum you will see that everything gets pretty well covered.

Once you play abit I think you will see that iis about impossible to write complete documentation for THIS game.

Re: How is the documentation?

It's not that a steep learning curve is a killer, it's that my gaming time is very limited. With both Victoria and Pax, for the first couple of weeks, I spent more time on the forums learning HOW to play than actually playing. I've given up on Pax for the time being (too buggy), but after 2 weeks of study feel I'm finally coming to grips with Vickie http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Anyway, I don''t want another game that will take 14-20 hours to learn (at least not right now). I plan to take the demo for a spin this weekend, so that will help me decide.
