recruiting question
after you take control of a new province, what dictates what units you can recruit there? is it possible to have units from warring races in your army or is your army consisted solely of one race?

Re: recruiting question
You can recruit what basic troops are there eg: Militia, Archer etc.. along with any special sites allowing Sages, Mages etc... I think there are lots of unique units to be found. As far as the enemy, when you conquer a fortress etc. of his you get only your races troops not his. I am almost positive you cannot field an army of your opponents forces, for example if you are Undead playing against Man when you take a Fortress etc. it will become yours and have only your race available.

Re: recruiting question
That kinda sucks then. That isn't really "spreading the word of God", it is more like breeding your own race until you are the only one left. You should be able to convert other races to your religion.

Re: recruiting question
yes, i see your point, but, I, as a god would gain much more satisfaction knowing that the masses that once fought against me now worship me. It would make me feel stronger and less like a glorified king.
I think that if your dominion was strong enough then neighboring provinces should "meld" with your empire by choice if they were influenced by your power. [ January 03, 2004, 04:39: Message edited by: mercurycs ] |

Re: recruiting question
but there is no big deal about being god to people that already worship you. i think that all the gods should be happy if they all had their own little island with their one race of choice and didn't bother with anyone else except their worshipers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Anyway, i just wish that i could form armies from multiple races like in Age of wonders. This is my only gripe so far and it really isn't that important i guess.

Re: recruiting question
It's only some (most, I guess) of the nation-specific units that you can't produce. There are tons of different neutral-type units which you can conquer and produce, and some of the nationals that you can - for example, Pythian hydras but not Emerald Guards. Having some unit types that can't just be assimilated is a limitation that helps keep balance, limit the momentum of victory, and maintain national flavor.

Re: recruiting question
Each province has a type of inhabitants, and when you conquer it you can recruit the armies that go with it : lizard warriors, amazons, hoburg militias http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif , and so on. Even when you capture an enemy's capital, you can recruit the armies that go with the province type. But not the special armies.
Some of it is common sense : there is no way Ermor would ever be allowed to recruit Marignon's paladins, right ? I mean, if they tried, they would at most get ordinary knights (which they can get in the right province) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But the real reason is probably game balance : some races get good mages, other get good infantries, if you start getting both you are getting close to invincible ... |
Re: recruiting question
There are spells which will let you steal commanders from other nations. So its not impossible, it just isnt something that happens alot. Its one of my favorite tactics since it
A) gives me experienced commanders of types I cant make B) gives me equipment I dont have to spend gems to get C) costs the other guy gems he put on the commander or used to make the commanders equipment D) leaves all that commanders troops standing there unable to move forward or fight. That Last note can be important since its a way to split that huge army approaching you into little armys spread out so you can hit them one at a time. Also if you attack that huge red square of troops after stealing commanders you often find that much of it will immeadiately rout since they have no leader. Its fun to watch a screenful of troops run away from their old commander. Or better yet from one scout that jumps out of hiding and yells BOO! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ January 03, 2004, 14:21: Message edited by: Gandalf Parker ] |
