Searchable Spells

Ok, I asked before and it didn't exist. So I decided to make a searchable database of spells. Thanks to Sunray's excel file I got at:

http://www.freewebs.com/sunray_dom2

I exported the spells and imported them into a database you can see at:

http://www.sangster.org/dominions/grimorie.php

You can search by spell name, type, school, class, gem cost, fatigue, level, and Primary Element (which I believe is path - I just used what was in Sunray's spreadsheet). All results are sorted alphabetically. I also added a column which tells what page each spell is found on in the manual.

Note that this isn't pretty or anything, so if you're looking for a visually stimulating web site this ain't it! But if you want spells, this should work ok.

Let me know if this is of any use to anyone.

Darryl

P.S. If Illwinter is here and this violates any copyrights just say the word and I'll take the page down.

Darryl,

I haven't been to the site, but if Illwinter objects to in on intellectual property grounds, it is my hope that they will allow the exact data to be hosted on this board at something stickied to the top. Because the way the spells are organized in the manual with no index basically invites folks to do what you have done.

Thanks for doing this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That's what I'd think, but you never know. I remember when various companies tried to shut down sites that did fan fiction even though it was given away. I even remember sites dedicated to movies and such being shut down even though the sites just extolled the virtues of the movie!

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">No problem. It's gotten to the point that I just wasn't casting spells as I couldn't organize info efficiently. And since I had already programmed a personal address book in the same way I just hacked the code into what I posted.

One of these days maybe I'll finish it. Or maybe even put something else on the site! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

great work ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

correction : I searched for any global enchantment & found that :

the looming hell : p128 instead of p127 (if they are not different copies of the manual)
blood slaves(gems) cost 150 & not 127

astral corruption : p128 (not 127)
gems is 166 (according to manual) & not 127

arcane nexus : gems is 150 & not 127

LOL it seems there's something between you & 127 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (I'm just joking http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )

other than tha, the thing I always wanted about spells is to know which one works underwater (when you're fighting an underwater nation, it's sometime difficult to know)

so if you could add that to your search engine, that would be great http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

just a question : if you don't specify anything
shouldn't you obtain the list of all spells ?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yeah, got a few of those wrong. In adding the page numbers I honestly couldn't figure out how the manual was organized. Not even alphabetical within Schools.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">The values for everything else came from the excel spreadsheet on Sunray's site, and I did notice some discrepancies. Maybe it was originally based on Dominions I and they changed the values. At any rate, if you see any more discrepancies let me know. You may want to let Sunray know as well.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I added a field called "special" that I would put all of the info like that, "Armor Piercing", and other non-consistent effects. I didn't fill out the column though, but it is there. To be honest, the chances of me going through the manual and filling it out are quite slim. If it wasn't for Sunray's spreadsheet, the spell page wouldn't be there. If anyone wants to do it, however, I would add it to the database. So if anyone is interested, the easiest way would be to add the effects to the spreadsheet on Sunray's site and I would reimport the data. Or I could add a page that allows you to edit values directly on the site. Let me know which people think would be easier.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">It used to work that way, but I got tired of waiting everytime I loaded the default page with it loading up all the spells (I think it would be murder for those on dialup) so I disabled it.

You can get the same effect by choosing the following:

"Level greater than or equal to 0"

with all other values at the default.

Instant list of all spells in the database! I'll probably put up a link to do it, but that will work as well.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Violates ?! no way!

We like it when players do all the stuff that we are unable to do ourselves http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I'll add a link on our website under community, unless this bothers you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">What?!?!!? And have Illwinter violate my personal copyright on that spell page? You've got to be kidding! You have no claim whatsoever to that page!! Do it and you'll be hearing from my sage lawyer! I'll have so many Fire Dragons invading your domain you'll have to change your name to Illsummer! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

In other words, link away. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

P.S. You wouldn't happen to know of an excel spreadsheet with unit stats in it would you?
