Dom2 on Laptop?

I have an HP laptop with integrated video memory http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I play Civ3 and EU2 and other games just fine, but Dom2 locks up (so does Victoria http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif )

Am I out of luck? Any suggestions? Is there a tech support forum I should have posted this on?

As far as I know, Dominions 2 requires OpenGL compatible video card (such as ati mobility radeon 9xxx). If you're unable to upgrade you're pretty much out of luck there. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm running it just fine on my Amilo D 8830 (radeon 9000) so I think it's safe to say that the problem is in the lack of OpenGL support.

I am able to play Dominions on my laptop. It has an integrated Radeon mobility video card. But it is so very slow. Archery in battles looks like it's not even moving. There was some post above to increase frame rate with mobility video cards, but it didn't seem self-explanatory, so I just use my home desktop for Dominions.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I'm playing on a laptop with Radeon mobility video card. Had frame rate about 3 per second with drivers supplied by my laptop's manufacturer. Went to that omegacorner site mentioned by Pocus, installed new driver, FPS is up to 'bout 60.

Sure Windows makes a lot of fuss about how the drivers I installed are not 'Windows approved', but I haven't had any problems so far.

There was also a switch that disabled all terrain and such which helped a lot while having old drivers, but I don't remember what it was... -x?

yes, there is a sticky thread about unofficial, albeit fully working, ATI drivers for laptop. I went from 3 FPS to something above 100 with the new ones, on my laptop.

The demo works like a charm on my Clevo PIII 1000 MhZ with an older Radeon (forget) with 64 MB and 512 system RAM. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

FWIW I had only gotten to game changes, srolling terrain, and it locked up tight. I use WinXP on an AMD machine.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">There are a few commandline switches to tell it to not do the scrolling background, or force it to use lesser graphics. Maybe those would help
