quick question
I've done a couple of searches on the forum and looked through the manual yesternight, but the answer still eludes me. How do i identify weather effects on the battlefield? Sure there a some snowflakes once in a while, but what about storms? I'm sure the answer is straightforward so get on with it!
cheers! |
Re: quick question
The sky in the background becomes grey.
If you have the sky turned off you may not be able to tell http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: quick question
Thanx for the reply:
I haven't been able to find a description of all weather effects and where they show up. If someone can elaborate on that, i would be much obliged. I know that: snowflakes on screen = snowy weather= bad for cold blooded (c'tis) and abysians. Any more? grey sky = storm = no flying. Any more? any way to predict weather before battle occurs, except that snowing is prolly related to cold and rain prolly doesnt occur much in warm areas? Where do storms occur mostly? Re: quick question
Well you can tell based on the Scales of the Province.
If you are attacking a province that has that blue "Cold" symbol or the red/yellow "Heat" symbol there is a good chance that the weather will be like the scale. I don't recall if Storms are random (though I could be wrong), they are caused by casting a spell /Storm/ or items Staff of Storms, Tempest. The same can be said for /Rain/ it's a spell. I don't think snowing causes any effects. And I have yet to see a sandstorm http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Storm has quite a few effects. It lowers precision so archers are less effective. Stops flying (except for certain units and units with certain items) and increases the effectiveness of certain spells. |

2) You will see in the top left corner "MageX casts Storm" or either, by right clicking on the commanders in the battle you will notice that one of them carries a Staff of Storms. |
Re: quick question
I don't think you understood. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Snowfall is rain for cold domains and doesn't mean anything other than you are fighting in a Cold Dominion with the "Rain" effect which in and of itself has certain modifiers for certain races. Storm isn't based on temperature only spells and items (I don't play with the sound on, so I forgot about the thunderclap). I believe the exact formula for what your lowered precision is 1/2 your base value + bonuses (from items, experience, etc). It stops all flying from anything but: Spring Hawks, Air Elementals, Storm Demons, Horrors, Queens of Elemental Air, Sylphs, etc any flying unit equipped with the magic item "Winged Helm". It also causes Rain, which doubles the fatigue of any Fire spell and reduces the effect of Heat (the ability) from Abysians, Fire Elementals, Fire Drakes, Summer Lions, Kings of Elemental Fire ... etc. Cold Blooded get at least double fatigue in Cold Provinces (Maybe more I don't know the exact #, but I would not advise fighting with them in Cold Provinces). Re: quick question
It's called Darkness (Alteration 6) or Utterdark (Alteration 9, always in effect). It makes everyone blind which really hampers fighting. Undead are immune.
Another that affects the sky is Solar Brilliance (Enchantment 7) that kills undead by the truckload and blinds enemies. There is another one that turns the sky pinkish. I think it's Heat from Hell. The Ark casts it too. [ January 15, 2004, 09:59: Message edited by: Zen ] |
