some suggestions and some questions

Hi there,

I just purchased this wonderful game being very impressed by the depth of the demo. While I wait for the delivery guy, however, I wish to put in my two cents on some potential means of improvement as well as post some questions...

<flattery-on>
Before I go on, I must say that I find the level of maturity and intelligence remarkable, on this board. There is actually a lot of useful info with little in the way of flame wars. A nice change from its likes.
<flattery-off>

First of all this game needs a queing system to deal with the way the game becomes entagled as the number of commanders and armies become large.

Example:
I play Ulm, I want my capitol to churn out black priests and black templar as long as I have money and resources for it. Some turns I forgot to add that to the cue. With multiple production centers this becomes a chore.

Same thing if I find a site that allows me to recruit wizards:
Say I want all the wizards moved to a certain front line province. I have to each turn order a new wizard and manually move the trail of wizards by one province.

This of course also means that move commands should also be queable: Troop movement from the rear becomes a pain as the empire stretches out. (Naturally, break the commands if a linking
province becomes invaded.)

On another note:
I find it difficult to find info on details like how corpses are handled and how various "reanimate" orders work etc. Hopefully the full manual will be more complete.

Also, does anyone have specific strategy guides on infividual races? (and how to deal with them.)

Many thanks,

Yg.

Sunray's site has the beginnings of a complete Nation and Theme guides (though our progress is limited by the time we have http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Find it here:

Note that the guides are just one way to play the nation/theme. It is not specifically the "Best" and they are written as suggestions to help you learn and understand their weaknesses and strengths.

There are also a few threads here on specific nations. That "search" feature in the uper right of the screen can get you there. Usually having it look for the nation in the subject does well.

We joke that any strategy book for this game will need to be a 17 volume encyclopedia (17 nations)

This is the White Gandalf, not the Grey one talking here. He likes his hobbits, yes he does, Precious!

A "Move to Provence" order would be great. Select the spot you want a General to move to and let the AI find the best route, and just give us a message when he gets there.

Honestly right now I have so many things going on in turn 75 its crazy. I have to take breaks because it gets to be too much. Anything you guys can think of to minimize the micromanagement would be awesome.

BTW you can sorta que the builds. As long as you have money THAT turn, you can que the build until you run out of money. The computer will build until the que is empty. This is particularly useful for provences with low resources. You come back in 5 turns and have 30 guys ready. Build a indy commander and move them to the front.

Another thing I do to alieviate the time it takes to move guys up is I find a few high resource provences near eachother, 45+ and build 2 or 3 castles. I do that on each front that way I can get reinfocements up fast.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Using the "n" key helps alot. So does using the F1 key. I know it gets crazy later but when people complain about that I remind them that this game is built on the idea of a PBEM multiplayer game. Turn 75 is something you download and spend hours making your moves, then upload the completed turn file. Wasted micromanagement can stand to be fixed. But doing things just so they will make the turns go faster at the cost of other features is something I would fight against. Not here so far but Ive seen suggestions in other threads which went WAY the wrong direction.
