Your Final Say on Rainbow Pretenders for Multiplayer
New. Would like to know how I should train in SP, to prepare for MP.
Thanks for your time, Aikamun [ January 29, 2004, 17:19: Message edited by: Aikamun ] |

To answer your question but not the poll:
Set independant strength to 6 (or more), magicsites to 50, score graphs disabled. Expand as fast as possible, and as soon as you encounter the enemy attack them, because you have to assume they would attack you first anyway. Ignore the AI's Messages where they declare war - assume you're always at war with everyone. At least, that's how all my smaller MP games seem to go. I'm not experienced with the larger ones, but in the one I have ongoing (we're currently on turn 10) I'm going with the tactic "avoid war on all fronts" so that I don't get ganked by 4 nations at once. My neighbours seem more than happy to sign cease-fire agreements. Unfortunately, you can't simulate this with the AI. |
Re: Your Final Say on Rainbow Pretenders for Multiplayer
The problem with this is that too many variables were left out of the question. How large a map, how many players, what nation are you playing, what nations are they, what do you mean by "perform". And absolutely the most important thing, which one would you play the best.

That is what I usually choose by. Then again, if you enjoy a nation it would probably help in playing it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |

Re: Your Final Say on Rainbow Pretenders for Multiplayer
Just bumping so the weekend visitors see this poll.
Preliminary numbers indicate: Multiplayers don't believe in a dominant pretender type. The votes show best results are obtained by playing your preferred strategy well. Please vote if you have not. Thanks, Aikamun |
Re: Your Final Say on Rainbow Pretenders for Multiplayer
I'm not going to vote because the poll doesn't accurately reflect game settings or type of game. "MP" has a ton of definable conditions not only for nations/setting/win scenarios/#ofplayers but for certain nations.
If I had to make a broad statement, I'd say that in MP if you use a Rainbow pretender you have to be survive the early-mid game to actually use them when they provide an advantage (late game). And if the settings or the players is counterproductive to you sitting behind diplomacy or indeps, your chances are slim. |
