easy question - help with attacking
I have (what should be a very basic) question about attacking other ships: Why can't I do it? I have a AI opponent that has a bunch of ships. I use the "Attack" button to send my ships there, thinking we'll immediately go into battle. No luck. Okay, then I click "Next turn", thinking that all battles will kick off if ships share the same sector at the end of my turn. No luck here either. Then... I realize that I have a treaty with the guy I'm trying to attack. But I realize that this AI has attacked me in the past when we were at a Trade treaty with each other. What's going on? I wanna attack! Why can't I? Thanks, Andy |

Get rid of treaty. if you have treaty you can't attack

...*any* treaty? I can't have any kind of agreement if I want to attack? (Protectorate, non-intercourse, etc)

Re: easy question - help with attacking
You can't attack if you have Trade Alliance and above.

Actually non-aggression and above will stop attacks. You can't keep an opponent out of one of your systems with blockades or mines if you have a non-aggression treaty with them so only use it in cases of emergency.

Re: easy question - help with attacking
I really don't like this system. I like the Stars! system very much in that regard. You can have full alliance with a player in which he can sail through your minefields at full speed at no risk, use your stargates and refuel at your stations and evrything is just nice and dandy. But, if he/she/it has a ship going somewhere you don't want it to go you tell one of your ships/fleets to attack it even it is a friend! You can specify orders to attack everybody, neutrals, enemies, friends and individual players. Something I miss in SE4 as there are places I don't want my friends to go. Especially if that friend is an AI.
