FEATURE REQUEST: "Recent Servers"

To modmakers or Illwinter--I will be your ever-loving servant if you could conjure up a "Recent Servers" option, whereby I could connect to an IP and Port of a recent Dom2 game Server with only a few clicks, instead of digging up the number and port every time, and typing it in from scratch!

Oh, and making the "Enter" and "." keys on the keypad work would help a bunch too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Thanks!

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: "Recent Servers"

Its fairly easy to create a desktop shortcut for each game (or server), I just learned how myself. Since I wouldn't be good at explaining it, I dug up this:

To create a button for going directly to the game.....

Right-click your Dom2 shortcut on your desktop
choose copy

right-click a blank spot on your desktop
choose paste

right-click the new shortcut
choose properties

Change the "target" line to be
"C:\Program Files\dominions2\dom2.exe" -waif --tcpclient --ipadr 209.157.135.121 --port 10000

Change the icon to something else. Change the title of the icon to something like Dom2GAME if you wish

read the doc file for "Command Line Switches" and see what other things could be put there instead of w a i f (windowed, no animated backgrounds, no intro, no fades) such as maybe adding m for no music and x for fast graphics. It will only be for this game and will not affect your default settings when you use your original icon to play your other games. My button now has -mwaifx

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">You will of course need to change the IP addr and port as appropriate.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Thanks for the tip, but the original request still seems legitimate to me. It would make things easier for the casual network gamer.

Same goes for having multiple pretenders for each nation (an old request). Sure, you can copy your files around out of the game, but it shouldn't be a big deal to have the game let you select which pretender you want from a list of your various designs.

I concur. I do the desktop shortcut thing but would LOVE a 'recent servers' function (say for when I'm involved in several MP games and want to go to each of them without closing the program or doing something ackward with my curent games).

Storing multiple pretenders would be nice too - especially if they weren't necessarily tied to a specific nation.

Re: FEATURE REQUEST: "Recent Servers"

I like the icon method because it lets me run each one with different settings. My dominions2 icon leaves everything running. Full graphics, sound, background screen animations, etc. My games tend to be no-intro, low-graphic, no sound, no animations and goes straight into my game. Even if they added the history list I would use the icons. The only thing the history would do is save me from looking up the addresses of games I was already out of and had deleted the icon if I needed it.

Oh yeah, the icon thing can do multiple pretenders also.
