I was not able to construct the cruher, why?

Hi There,
i was playing Ulm and had just reserached the Crusher, but i was not able to "summon" it.

In another game i was not able to summon some evil Creature(do not remember, which), are there any restrictions, or something other. In both cases i had given both enough gems/slaves?

BTW: I there any Gameplay effect, when i have much domminon in one province?

To perform a ritual summoning, you must have

 • A mage with the required magic skills for the ritual
 • Who must be in a province with a laboratory
 • And you must have sufficient gems stored in your gem pool (not on the mage - gems in the mage's private box are for use in combat)

Assuming that your mage has the required skill level, it sounds as if you are giving the gems to the mage instead of leaving them in the pool.

As for gameplay effects of high dominion, yes, there are many. Some tied to scales, some to specific magic spells, some tied to morale, some tied directly to your pretender god and to your prophet. One is tempted to suggest that you read the manual if you have the full game and not the demo. But, to put it short, high dominion is with very few rare exceptions better than low dominion.

It is scattered throughout the manual, really, which is why I suggested reading all of it if you had not already, as you will not find a full list in any one place. Anyway, hopefully somebody with more time to answer than me will come around and post a comprehensive list for you. The most important to know (at the start) is that you need high dominion in a province for the scales in the province to adjust to your national scales. E.g. assuming you chose +3 order on setup, provinces with your dominion will gradually adjust their scales to +3 order - and quicker the higher dominion you have got. The second-most important (or the first, if you chose to have a big monster pretender God to stomp everything) is that the hitpoints and skills of your pretender God and your prophet are affected by your level of dominion. The third most important is that it is harder for an enemy to reduce your dominion where it is high than where it is low.

...And of, course, you need to know that if you have no dominion left whatsoever - YOU LOSE. This is especially useful when you need to kill off an enemy that is holed up in its Last strongly defended fortress. You don't NEED to storm the castle if you can just destroy its dominion.

Re: I was not able to construct the cruher, why?

Thank you again:)

But(shame on me) I still have another question(And i don´t want to open another Threat):

Me and my friend play a lot hotseat, but we worry, that the motivation will decrease if we are not able to „build“ or „raise“ one hero/pretender/god in different sessions.

Maybe you know what i mean, we would like to choose the same pretender again and again, maybe with one or two commanders with him together.

Is there any way to do this?

I still only have the demo, but if you have already created a pretender for a nation, you can use this single pretender for more than one game, provided you do not "create a new god" in the main menu before creating a game.
However, you will not be able to change your dominion setting, or your special theme.

You cannot, however, take leaders other than your pretender from one game to another, AFAIK.

And what about his Items?

DO i have to play the whole map before i "export" the pretender?

No, your pretender is exactly the same one you started your previous game. No additional skills, no experience, no items.

EDIT: Just to make my previous post a bit clearer:
Effectively, you do not export your pretender to another game, but you start a new game playing the same nation with a new pretender, who just happens to be the same one you started your previous game with.

Re: I was not able to construct the cruher, why?

It might be possible to make a new .map file in which you defined the pretender of the nation of your choice to be the one with whom you won your Last game. That might not work, though, because with modding tools some restrictions were added to prevent that happening in multiplayer games.
Remember to modify the scales too, and starting dominion power, if you can do this. Otherways it takes them from the latest god you created for the nation...

Dzbabi,

To answer all your questions on the effects of dominion, read this excellent guide written by ceremony:

http://www.maladjustite.com/dominion.pdf

Found with the "Search" link at the top of the page (though I knew it existed). But the search button is an invaluable resource for answering questions that you suspect may have been asked before.

Hope this helps you out. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
