Black Holes have me Boxed in Corner: How to Warp Out

Okay, in a game with one other human and a dozen other AI races I am in a corner system and while I've expanded to control two other systems other then my home system I can't go any further because all other warp points lead to systems that dead end or go to black holes that prevent me from getting to the other systems.

How do I research the ability to open and close my own worm holes? I know it exists but dont have the foggiest on how to get this technology.

If I can find this technology I will be in a good position to hit and run the other races since they won't be able to get to my systems. My human opponent has no idea this technology exists by the way!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Wormhole tech is like level 3 stellar manipulation. Get astrophysics and then start in on steller. Personally, I recommend just flying past the blackholes, I do it all the time. If the damaged wormholes are eating you up too bad, start sendng repair ships through with colony ships, between them (the colony pod iteself is amazingly resistant to damage) you should get a foothold on the other side fairly easily.

Research Astrophysics and then Stellar Manipulation. Levels 3-7 of Stellar Manipulation give you the required tech.

SM components are pretty expensive. You'll want to ramp up your radioactive production and be careful to mothball your warp closers/creators when you aren't using them.

You might try putting the warp creators on bases to reduce the maintenance cost by half.

Great idea! You should build a bunch of these at once and then start using them. You wouldn't want to lose the element of surprise, would you?

I thought warp creation components needed to be on a ship, because the game checks to see if you have movement remaining before you can use them. Is that incorrect, or do you work around the problem by using emergency propulsion pods or something?

*grin*

You are absolutely right.

But I figured if he's keeping SM a secret from the other human player in the game, then it would serve him right to build a couple of useless bases that take 30 turns to build.
