Allies on Maps?
Hiho all,
Me and my friend have a problem: We play a lot multipllayer and we would like to ally in the game, we(3) togehther against the AI. Is that possible? Mille grazie Griffin |
Re: Allies on Maps?
Hi
There is no formal way of making an alliance. Not in the sense that you are declared winners when the AI's are dead. It is possible to make the AI's allied. Then they will not attack each other. AI alliances are made in the map file and pair-wise. You designate a pair of AI's that are allied, then another pair if you want bigger alliances. If you want more info on this post again. Generally, when I play hotseat with a friend prefering allied play we help each other when needed and if all AI are defeated call it a day. No jippyee when we win, of course, but that doesn't matter much. |
Re: Allies on Maps?
Ok,
I think that is a deal;) Can you plz explain me how it works to make the AI allied?(in detail) I think this would work for Hotseat, have you any advices, which map would work best for a 3Person Hotseat session against 3 AIs?? |
Re: Allies on Maps?
Hmm, take a look in the mapedit.pdf. Here's a sum up.
Try Aran. It is not wraparound so you can have east vs west. Make a copy of aran.map => allyaran.map (in the dominions2/maps library) Use wordpad, notepad, emacs or another texteditor. If you want Abysia and Pythium to be allied enter enter the following command line. Just before -- provinces should do fine. #allies 0 2 If you want Abysia and Pythium and Jotunheim to be allied enter enter the following command lines. #allies 0 2 #allies 0 12 #allies 2 12 There is a list of nation numbers in mapedit.pdf You might want to set start locations if you go for a east-west scenario. This command places abysia in province 34: #specstart 0 34 Also change #dom2title Aran => #dom2title Allyaran To get a different name in the map list. |

Thank you,
when i finish of work i will try it:) Bye Griffin |
Re: Allies on Maps?
This site makes a bunch of those fresh every day. The description is this...
The nation maps use the aran.tga which comes with the Dominions 2 demo (and full game). They provide randomly selected opponents at randomly selected difficulty levels with randomly elected alliances. Fun huh? So if you wish to play Man you can download the Man.map and set Man for human player, then play. No need to elect opponents. These maps are re-randomized once a day so tomorrow you can download it again and play a different set of opponents. Abysia.map Arcos.map Atlantis.map Caelum.map Ctis.map Ermor.map Jotun.map Machaka.map Man.map Marignon.map Mictlan.map Pangaea.map Pythium.map Rlyeh.map TienChi.map Ulm.map Vanheim.map They are setup for one human opponent but you can probably find ones that allow two that arent already in the game. Grab them here... http://www.techno-mage.com/~dominion/Dominions2/ |
Re: Allies on Maps?
Kristoffer O ...
thanks for the info... I was wondering how to make the game more challenging. Right now only Ermor provides a challenge during the games with XL maps. Also to improve the aritificial intelligence the AI opponents should focus on the strongest player during mid and late game. Example if Player_A owns 50% of the map... then all remaining computer opponents should mainly focus attacks on Player_A. It's what human players usually do. Re: Allies on Maps?
Wow! This is a great suggestion for beefing up the challenge the AI can present. I can't wait to try this out. And it's especially sweet that the site Gandalf pointed out generates such maps for you. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
