Renaming allowed as default
Just wondering if this feature would be possible, since as things now are you cannot rename during scenarios. Or can it be modded?

Re: Renaming allowed as default
In a v2.08 game, if you enable renaming at the time of creating the game, then you can. Else you cannot.
Perhaps for reasons of backwards compatibility between 2.08 and earleir games, they made the default no renaming. If they changed the default it is possible they would have made all 2.06 or earlier games invalid. And that would have been far worse and made many people very upset. |

The correct solution would probably be to add a "renaming = "yes/no" (or equivalent) to the parser. Then one could just update scenarios as appropriate. |
Re: Renaming allowed as default
For most of the settings (not sure on rename unless I check) you can set things like that going in. There is a project floating around here somewhere for a front-end windows program which will let you save the game settings you usually use and re-use them. This would also be very nice for people who rarely change the opponents they choose, their difficulty settings of the AI, the independent level (does anyone play at 3 after the first few games?), and even their favorite map.

Re: Renaming allowed as default
No I meant the options (switches) that can be included when calling Dom2. Usually people think of them as hosting options but they dont have to be for hosting.
However their use, like many things about this game, are not explained much and it takes a fair bit of experimenting to get what you want. With some experimenting I have some different ways f starting a game without having to do the long walk thru the menus, but nothing worth making available. Others are working on a "windows program" which will let you save as many settings as the game will let be controlled thru switches so that you can just click that program to start a game with those settings. |
