Newbie Qs (I read the guides)

I have read the guides and would like a few Qs answered please. I have barely begun to play and am totally obsessed with the game.

1) There are bonuses for casting a spell and being at least 2 levels higher than the spell level. Does this refer to level of fire/water/astral/etc or to evocation/alteration/etc???

2)I am confused about the heat/cold scale. If I make a Jotunheim pretender is he +3 cold? I thought I read that somewhere? Or is that for his unit only?

Thanks!

2. Jotunheim (basic) prefers +2 Cold, for the national units. Different pretenders may or may not have tolerances for heat/cold scale.

More appropriately it might be said that any units (or nation) is not hampered by any temperature variance that it has Resistance too. So if units have Cold Resistance, fighting in a Cold 3 Enviroment doesn't change their battlefield condition. Wheras Fire Resistance doesn't hamper anyone fighting in any sort of Heat Enviroment.

All other affects of temperature are on economy as Nagot said.

Heat/cold also has some influence on heat/cold radiation (units that radiate heat do it more powerful in Heat-3 than Cold-3, for instance), Caelian ice armor (avoid Heat-3...), and certain spells (Heat from Hell is most powerful in a Heat-3 dominion, Murdering Winter most lethal in Cold-3 et al).
