Flight spell... Who\'s flying?
My first topic.. Yum. Hopefully the answer is other than 'use the search function'
I was playing as Man, and using the demigoddess (Daughter of Tuatha?) as my pretender. She's got some HP, so I figure I'll get some SC usage out of her before she retires to research and cast rituals. I set her to: Fire Shield, Flight, Personal Regen, Soothing Song, Attack rear My assumption would be that she would cast flight on -herself-, and then fly on over to the rear of the army and beat up on some commanders... No. So she casts all her spells, and starts Strolling.. nay, meandering, her way across the field.. *sigh* I check her stats, no flying icon. I check the stats of every other soldier on the field (There was just a dozen longspears to keep people off her while casting)... none of them have the flight icon... This happened in three successive battles, the second and third times, I paused right after she cast flight to look for who was flying (not wanting the person to die before I found them) and found nobody. (I gave up on the plan after three failures) 1) Any idea what happened? 2) Any way to specify "Cast it on your damn self!"? |

Re: Flight spell... Who\'s flying?
There are a few spells that you learn not to use after a while, for the very reason you mention - you can't be sure whom they'll be cast upon. Aim is another that comes to mind. If mages would cast it upon themselves, it would be great, but they're more than likely going to cast it on some javalin-tossers or somebody. Blink is a spell I could think of some wonderful uses for - if I could control where the mage would blink to. As it is, I've never even tried to cast it.

There has been a flight bug earlier. Perhaps it wasn't fixed. We'll take a look.

Regarding blink, I tend to grin evilly when I see an AI mage wearing the Sandals of the Crane. Such mages tend to not Last very long.
Winged Shoes are a cheap and more controllable alternative to the Flight spell, ayup. Stymphalian Wings is interesting, but if memory serves adds Trampling as well, and I don't consider Trample a good thing on a large commander who by then can be equipped with decent weapons. |

In this situation, it should cast flight upon the Pretender, because there isn't anyone else to cast it on. But instead - it picks a random spell. Happened 3 times as I was testing an air-magic Scorpion King. |
Re: Flight spell... Who\'s flying?
And I'm not sure about DomII, but in singleplayer my lone Wyrm cast Flight... on an opposing Van! It seems the target of Flight can never be the caster him-/herself, even if no other targets are in range.

Re: Flight spell... Who\'s flying?
I just noticed this myself. My Pretender, all alone in a battle, refuses to cast Flight at all.
Edit: Heh, somehow I skipped over Cainehill's post when reading this thread the first time. Excuse my repetition of his discovery. [ May 07, 2004, 04:01: Message edited by: Vynd ] |
