Design question / suggestion for IW about dominion death

When a god is removed from play due to lack of dominion anywhere, it's game over for them, and all of their provinces show up as independent. Their armies still seem to be present in all of the provinces, but when these provinces are attacked, there is no battle - they just get taken.

I'm curious why IW chose to make the armies of zero-dominion gods vanish when attacked? Would it not be more fun/interesting if the armies (and perhaps the PD) of these provinces became independent armies?

Easier to kill than convert. Ask the crusaders, Al Quaeda, Nazis and some Peace Freaks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Not a bad idea though.

I don't understand how "easier to kill than to convert" answers why it is the way it is, since you don't seem to have to kill them - they just vanish. I was suggesting anyone would have to fight them as independents after their god evaporates. As it is, it looks like you will have to fight them (spies report their armies as they were), but when you move in with any unit, there is no actual contest. I assume it means that they have no will to fight without a god, so they give up as soon as anyone shows up.

I take this as a boost to the player who is trying hard to dominion-kill a nation - the other provinces will be easy scout pickings when you do kill him, and you can prepare your scouts beforehand.

The problem is in SP, where the AI doesn't seem to take advantage of it. In SP, when an AI dies to dominion death, the other AI with adjacent armies don't attack the now-empty provinces - at least, they don't do it systematically. As a result, you get "free" provinces if you have nearby armies or sneaking scouts (I like to have scouts everywhere, even in SP).

I think "easier to kill than convert" was a programming answer, and then a joke was added. The typed media is hard to cnvery some things. I picure the first comment made in all seriousness, then a mischievous grin as the second comment was made.

Make sense to me. "Easier to remove the old troops than change their designation to neutrals" or something like that.

Oh a cryptic clue that it would be somewhat hard to program? Or it was the path of least resistance? Ok. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
