Tip on "Guard Position"
About a month ago I posted asking if it were possible to have troops simply stay put and guard a particular position (instead of: guarding a commander), and a few tips were given (such as: have an extra commander hang out where you want those troops to be and set them on "guard"). But I think I found a better one. Forgive me if this is old news or useless, but I think it works nicely:
Set them to "fire closest". |
Re: Tip on "Guard Position"
What will only work if they aren't light infantry or sidhe or the like which have javelins ...
Are you shure the troops actually defend themselves? And even if they do, anyone attacking them would get in the first blow anyway, as they don't react to enemies coming close, or do they? A. |
Re: Tip on "Guard Position"
I tried this with atlantean troopers and similar non-ranged units, and it seems to work ok.
But yes, it is a suboptimal solution; better would be a "guard position" command. |

Re: Tip on "Guard Position"
You may find that the units on "guard" make better use of bows now with the new patch. It may be worth testing.

Re: Tip on "Guard Position"
I dont see your problem.
Use 20 soldiers, put their commander in the middle and set them to guard commander. The commander will be surrounded and unable to move, so his guards wont move too |
