Looking for players...

I'm having trouble finding opponents interested in quick games on small maps. Anyone else notice this deficientcy in the MP game selection?

Yes,

I have also noticed that no one seems to be playing multiplayer games on small maps. (It seems like the vast majority of games are played on Orania or comparably sized maps).

hmm... perhaps we could use this thread to orginize a quick small-scale game. I would be willing to host in if we played in blitz format, because I can't keep Online 24/7.

I would prefer more faster games on smaller maps too. I'd be interested in either standard 24hrs hosting game on a small map ("crowded" is ok too) or semi-blitz on small map. One session to do dozen or 2 turns, further either scheduled sessions or quickhosting with 24hrs force-host. Acutally, if there're only 4-6 players in similar timezones, few turns can be done in the same day.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I think he means starting as a blitz game, then changing to 24-hour host. BTW, it turns out my computer is not powerfull enough to run the simultaneous Dom II windows needed to host all games but PBEMs. However, most comuters can handle blitz hosting, so using that format there should be little trouble finding a host.

I prefer small maps, too :-) Especially with a relative low number of Victory Points required to win, as to avoid the long "XXX has already won, but the victory is still 50 rounds off". I much prefer "What!! You sneaky bastard! You won!" :-D

I do see a number of these games on my server, though they tend to be over quickly. Right now, WarsOfGaia is one such game... 8 players on the urgaia map.

Semiblitz is now supported on my server, BTW, so that could be used to host the games if you prefer. It's up and running anyway.

Re: Looking for players...

Question 1:

Mr. Mose Hansen: What is this server you mention, and where can one find it to host? I see your name mentioned elsewhere, but am unfamiliar with how to go about this hosting business (on your server???).

Question 2:
I am also interested in both smaller maps and smaller games, also with victory conditions open to more subtle means of victory, such as those Mr. Hansen outlined above. However, I dislike "blitz" games, due to my bizarre time constraints etc.
Would anybody be interested in playing smallerish, but perhaps not quite so fastish games with me? If so, could you perhaps include me in your thoughts when generating such games and/or contacting possible participants? I promise to be much less verbose. My Email is bigboote@gmx.net

Question 1: My server can be found here:
https://www.mosehansen.dk/cgi-bin/dom2.pl

The server is under more or less permanent reconstruction. Currently, this means that you have to find a link on the page to a "new server", and use that. Also, your browser will complain about the certificate. Ignore this for now, I will fix it some day.

To participate in a game, use the IP address dom2.mosehansen.dk, and the port listed for the game in question.

There is a looong thread about this server under the title "New and raw something something"
