An Interesting Anomoly

As I was continuing my task of mapping the full research tree Last night, I noticed that you can research Tractor/Repulsor weapons to levels 7 and 8, but, you don't get anything for gaining those levels....

Actually, you can research up to level 9 in T/R weapons. Levels 7, 8, and 9 give you the "Small Graviton Beam" levels 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Assuming you have researched Smaller Weapons 1, 2 and 3.

BTW - the damage stats on the Small Graviton Beams are pretty good - I'll have to research those. Thanks for the tip http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

If this is indeed true, then its the first occurence that I have seen of inter-dependence in the research tree....

Yup, patch 1.19 moved the small graviton beam out of gravitational weapons and into tractor/repulser weapons. It doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, but it doesn't hurt anything either.

Actually if you take a look at the tech tree in the game, whenever you see a (2) after an item, you'll need to reach a certain level in 2 different techs to get the item. I think that pretty much only comes into play with the smaller weapons tech tree, and whatever normal tech tree the normal sized weapon falls under.

Actually, Spyder, most of the small weapons require multiple tech areas.

Or maybe I wasn't clear about the research part: you can research T/R Weapons through level 9 without researching Smaller Weapons; however, in order to get the components, you have to research Smaller Weapons as well.

Spyder - there is an excell file located in a earlier thread (on page 2 below -titled tech levels in excell format - maybe...) that might be of some help to you in your tech level mapping. I made it and stuck it on the board to help anyone. Hope it can be of some use
