Apostacy useless?
 

I have played around a bit with apostacy, it sounds like a nice spell but i can't get it to work. I used a level 4 unholy priest with a spell foucus and a ring of sorcery and still haven't seen it work, not even against the idependent level 2 priests. Anyone got it to work or is it bugged?

It works, in one PBEM game I lost one of my Jotun Jarls to a BE Prophet casting apostacy. It was a thing to be remebered because the said Jotun Jarl managed to kill my pretender in a later fight.

Well i guess i'll try it some more now that i know it's working. Probably me and my bad luck again.

Use communion to boost your unholy level even further to boost penetration, and add a Rune Smasher for +2 more penetration.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">BE Ermor is a lot more likely to have a spell focus than a rune smasher, but that is definetly a good idea if you have a water 2/fire 2 mage sitting around.

It's an unholy prayer available only to Ermor (Broken Empire), that attempts to convert an enemy sacred unit or commander to your side.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Thanks for the tip, i keep forgetting communion gives you extra priest levels. Time to buid some more thaumaturgs and see if i can get it work with communion.

Apostacy is quite nice as it is essentially a low level, low fatigue charm spell, which specifically targets the most dangerous units to your undead troops. It goes after priests which have a tendency to banish your troops.

The only real problems with BE Ermor's mages, is that they don't have a good communion slave, that they like to cast the single undead boosting spells an awful lot instead of things like nether dart, and that they are quite expensive for their low level magic skills.
