Wishing for dominion?
 

I did a search, but 'wish' and 'dominion' show up in an awful lot of threads http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif None of them seem to be what I want, though.

I don't see any difference when I wish for dominion... The province I was in was at -9 on the turn before, and still at -9 after. I didn't -notice- a change in any provinces where I had positive dominion either, though I wasn't really looking for it there.

Given the message about '... at the expense of all the other pretender gods.', I would expect to gain ground in negative dominion provinces.

Am I completely misunderstanding what a wish for 'dominion' is supposed to do?

I'm guessing that the effect of wishing for dominion is not sufficiently powerful to overcome the effects of the large number of temples that exist in the game. There's a certain element of dynamic equilibrium that governs dominion coverage, that tends to be somewhat resistant to anything short of an organized and sustained effort to alter it: Wishing for Dominion doesn't give you more temples, nor more priests preaching, nor remove those of the enemy's. Thus, it probably won't make a prolonged impact.

I believe you get dominion all over the world (a bit randomly). If other players have dominion in a province it will get lower. Something like that.

It does work, I've tried it about a month ago. I know for sure it worked because all provinces that I won were the water ones (as Atlantian), and no positive dominion on land provinces. But after casting, some of the land provinces flipped to my dominion.

The problem is that the effect is quite random. The game probably just randomly pick x provinces not already at +10 dominion, and adjust those by a little bit (not a lot, you probably won't go from -10 to +10, or even -10 to 0 often...)
