Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Should work on rock & ice planets; but not on gas giants. Game does not allow a planet of "Gas Giant/No Atmosphere".

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
it should convert to whatever is your population atmosphere

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Would be amusing if had 'none' as your atmosphere and you built a converter on a gas giant planet and when it was finished the giant would vanish. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

(There aren't any AI races that have 'none' as atmosphere, so this shouldn't be too crippling for AI players.) ------------------ -- "What do -you- want?" Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Players who take 'none' for their atmosphere ought to be able to colonize Astroids since they have fewer planets than any other race design. Huge planets with no atmostphere are extremely rare. Usually no atmosphere worlds are small. It looks from the Planets.txt file that they intended to allow colonizing astroids. It must be something they decided not to implement or they have not gotten around to it yet.
With remote mining being so costly, the only thing astroids are good for is turning into planets late in the game. |
Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
the reason to pick none would be to handicap yourself while playing a weaker oponent.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
IF you look in the component's files, there's an image for a colony on a gas giant with no atmosphere. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif No joke, it's really in there.

Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Actually there are a lot of "none" planets out there you just call them moons http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif. A no atmosphere start isn't that much of a handicap really. I started doing it for that reason but the time you save with atmosphere converters in the mid game makes up for a little worse start. And almost every system with worlds will have at least one moon and usually 4 or 5. Thats more than most atmosphere types. Sure they are tiny but they are all over. Great for advance military bases and resupply depots. The biggest handicap is that you will get no Gas giant planets with your atmosphere. That is only a problem untill you conquer your first other empire then you will have other atmosphere types to breathe. The Neutral expansion pack from Universal shipyards includes a neutral player with "none" as its atmosphere type and you can easily mod the atmosphere type that any AI has. I changed quite a few default atmosphere types in my game because the overwelming majority of downloadable races have oxygen/rock as their HW type. It seems to balance out the races somewhat if all of them aren't competing for the same planets at he beginning.

Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
Can atmosphere tpye other than none (methane, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide) be changed using atmopheric converters to no atmosphere (none) ?.
|
Re: Can some atmosphere be changed to none ?
don't believe so. In my experience they have always changed "other" atmosphere to "my" atmosphere.
