Are there afflictions that you cannot recuperate from?

The title pretty much covers it. I got to thinking about this when it occured to me that, if you can recuperate from disease, why worry about your men starving?

Recuperation may not be quick or reliable.
Also, starvation is a -4 morale penalty.

Although disease is what first got me interested in this issue, I didn't really mean it to be the focus of my question. Although I gather from people's responses that you can, in fact, recuperate from disease. But my real question was: Is there is anything you simply cannot recuperate from?

All aflictions can be gotten rid of. Curse and horror mark are permanent.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">One exception: Item-induced afflictions cannot be gotten rid of until the item causing it is removed. However, most items that cause afflictions are cursed, and therefore, cannot be removed.
