Where can I get the WinDomMap files?
Something has happened to Arryn's Dominions 2 Resource Fansite and nothing there can be downloaded anymore. In fact, the whole site seems to be completely dead. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif
Is anyone else hosting the DomMap-Win.zip and WinDomMap.zip files anywhere? I would really like to download these to try building some new game maps. Would someone else in the Dom2 community (like maybe Galdalf Parker) be willing to host these files on their Dom2 site if Arryn's site is now dead? It would be much appreciated. BTW, I'm a former SE4 player and TBS game lover who has just recently discovered the glorious life-sucking addition that is Dom2. I gotta say that I really love this game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Thanks. ColdSteel |

Re: Where can I get the WinDomMap files?
Gandalf, Thanks for the nice welcome to the forum and for the temporary file hosting. Does anyone know what happened to Arryn's resource site? Shrapnel used to host mod and utility files for SE4, which was handy. I guess maybe they stopped doing that for their games at some point?
I also emailed Mark yesterday and he says he may update his WinDomMap utility this weekend to stand alone without needing the DomMap file and repost to the forum. Which parameters are you trying to figure out? The readme seems to describe them all pretty well unless there are some others that aren't documented? I played with the utility a bit today and I really wish there were some color parameters for the different terrain types and for the land province borders. Border thinkness in pixels would be a nice parameter to have too. There's always Photoshop, I suppose. Now that I have the source and makefile for Windows, maybe I'll do some poking around in there. -CS |
Re: Where can I get the WinDomMap files?
Are you a C'er? There are alot of things Id like to see added to the dommap program.
One of the best touchups for the maps that I have found are paint program utilities for scattering the colors slightly and then smoothing them out. In GIMP thats 'scatter' then 'blur' Ive also been able to fatten up borders by pulling that color to a seperate layer. Then I can change the color, and use 'edge' to add more to it. I usually at least copy the white pixels, and sometimes the borders, to a layer since using blur on them is to be avoided. You especially have to protect the white pixels whatever you do |
Re: Where can I get the WinDomMap files?
C isn't my best language, its been quite a long time since I programmed in that. I mainly mess around with Python these days.
I've been doing the same things you've been doing with the borders but in Photoshop. I emailed Mark and asked him about making the map colors and border colors parameters in his program and he's working on that now. I also just asked him about adding a "border thickness" parameter. Those would all be welcome additions, I think. -CS |
