A Neat Thing

If you mind enslave an enemy prophet, he shows up as a regular unit without name as "the prophet" in your garrison. Kind of funny, but that's not all:
Interestingly, he is still *permanently blessed* -- but with YOUR blessing!
(So now you have, say, a little inquisitor unit which is not a commander, and when you right-click it, it says "the prophet", and it is blessed, and can't really do a heck of a lot unless you have really interesting bless effects. Still, if you happened to have stolen a Tuatha or something they are really nice...)

Further information: Keeping this critter alive will not prevent your enemy whose prophet you stole to appoint a new prophet later.
Unclear is whether the little fellow actually provides dominion spread....

If you GoR him, will he retain the "prophet" attribute? If he dies, will you gain the ability to reappoint a new prophet, or would the game actually check for the existence of "a prophet", and thus your prophet(s) are not actually dead, so the creation of a new prophet would be blocked until both had died?

Re: A Neat Thing

Around Version 2.06 or so, I Hellbound a total of 3 enemy prophets in a casual multiplayer game, and kept them safe and sound in my capitol. I'm still not sure whether they had any effect on dominion spread, but I did get a chance to appoint yet another prophet a few months after my original prophet died.
I didn't bother to check whether killing off one of my captured prophets had the same effect, nor did I try making one of the prophets a prophet twice over. Also dunno whether any of this holds true for more recent Versions.

What I'd like to know is wether the opponent was able to appoint a new prophet after a few months or not?

The apostates probably spread dominion (regardless of commander status). I would assume thay you can't appoint a new prophet if you didn't have any prophet (commander?) before, but I may be mistaken.

On a somewhat-related note...

Does anyone know what the full mechanisms of prophet-mercenaries? In a MP-game I made a random merc leader my prophet. When I didn't rehire him, my friend hired that band, and the merc showed up blessed, with the prophet icon, and apparently still my prophet. When he finally died in combat, six months later I was able to appoint a new prophet.

I was unable to tell if the hired prophet was spreading my dominion in the heart of the enemy lands, but I assume so. I would also be interested to know what happens if the merc-prophet is _not_ rehired, and eventually vanishes from the list. Will I, six months later, be able to recruit a new prophet, or would I forever be stuck without one?
