Horror mark mystery

So if I hire a unit, and the next turn there was no battle or event announced for the province and it shows up as expected ... but it has a horror mark... what should I expect?

Is there a hidden site which horror marks some units in a province?

The Vale of Infinite Horrors can horror mark units that live in the province with it. There may be others, but this is the most noteworthy one I recall.

Hall of Flayed Skins (Unholy 3 or 4) and Crown of Darkness (Death 4) also deal out horror marks. Those two and the Vale of Infinite Horror are the only sites that do that.
