Automated PBEM management?
Does anyone know of any kind of program that will take the .plr files, run the turn, and then email the results to the appropriate people? It's kind of a pain in the *** to do it all manually...
Thanks! |
Re: Automated PBEM management?
No, but I have made a program that checks your email and if it matches the criteria then it saves the player (or .gam) file to a specified directory.
If you associate the .gam file to SEIV then you can doubleclick the .gam file and it will run the host turn automatically. Then all you need to do is send the new files out. If there is a demand for a program to do that all automatically then I can make one when I finish my other one completely (currently beta testing on friends computers) but you would not see it for 2-3 months I guess (got a real job and kids to take up most of my time) Griffin |

It uses three other programs. 1) Blat - a free, command line Mailer. http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/blat.html 2) Zip - a free, command line zip program. http://www.ise.ufl.edu/kisko/files/f...e%20utilities/ 3) WinWizard BASIC - a nonfree BASIC interpreter. http://www.pdssoft.com/ The program is written in BASIC, but requires the WinWizard interpreter (no executables). I run it from the Windows Task Scheduler once an hour, where it: Checks to see to any new turns have arrived. Moves them to the Savegame directory if they have. Counts the number of plr files. If they're all in, it compiles. If it's been 24 hours, it compiles anyway. When it compiles, it first zips all the files for backup. Then it compiles, and waits. Then it zips the files up and sends them to my players (via a mailing list). I put some effort into making the program adaptable to other machines too. You'd have to include your own method of downloading the incoming plr files onto your hard drive. I can send it to you if you're still interested. Scott B.
