SE4 crashes

I had Se4 installed for 2 years, and it worked good. But yesterday I was shocked: both Versions- 1.49 and 1.91 stops loading at 4%. Other than that my PC is working normally. I reinstalled the game, but it didn't solve the problem- the programs still lock up at 4%. I checked the hard disk for errors with dskchk.exe, but that was no help.

I'm running Win2000 Pro.

Any ideas what's happening are very much welcome.
