how does blood vengeance work ?

this spell looks interesting . i would like to know how the check is made if the damage is transfered or not .
the spell description is extremely vague there .

does it work like a mr-savethrow attack like soul slay or do you get better boni and perhaps it is :
mr + 2d6 oe of caster vs mr + 2d6 oe of target ?

furthermore do you get higher odds when casting it with a powerful blood mage ? a doom horror has a built in blood vengeance of +2 so perhaps that is possible for normal cast blood vengeance too ?

nope, no better bloodvengeance with higher mage.

how often does it prevent you then about from damage against high mr units like SCs ?
it shouldn't work too often right ?

Re: how does blood vengeance work ?

it works alot against riffraff units and occasionally vs high mr, kinda random. should ask for the formula i suppose if someone would answer it.
see it as the best damage shield yet no the best damage repellant shield http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I believe it had the same effect as luck, which means that 50% of the hits are retransferred, and 50% go through.

I believe it's more like (10 + BV_level 10 + 2d6oe) vs (target's MR + 2d6oe)

what do you mean with BV_level 10 ?
seems like a little typo to me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

nagot do you have praxis expierience with this spell against scs ?
if yes please share your observations http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

just saying something like when fighting against a 24 mr pretender i saw blood vengeance effect only e.g. in 10% of the attacks or something like that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ooops, right. That should be (10 + BV_level + 2d6oe) - where BV_level is for 'Blood Vengeance level', eg 2 for Doom Horrors or Vastnesses.

If a level 9 blood mage could cast a level 9 BV, it would indeed be very powerful, but that's not the case - pity!

As it is, BV vs high-MR SCs doesn't very effective, unless said SC is very unlucky and fumbles most of his rolls. Still, a SC who does a lot of average damage/hit can seriously maim himself when the BV kicks in. I've seen an 'Heroic Strength' Ice Devil drop from ~70 hp to 6 hp (!) once because of BV (although he was lucky enough to gain his hp back thru his Wraith Sword and regen and eventually win that battle).
