IRC Troubles.
 

I'm going to have to post in this thread because of problems which have arisen with the IRC channel.

When Zen retired from the forums, he didn't leave IRC right away; he maintained a presence there for a few days. Eventually he left IRC as well. Almost.

For the past few days, he has been stopping in periodically - once a day, or thereabouts, for only a few seconds at a time - and behaving erratically. Kicking/banning people, fiddling with the channel settings, and so on. Tonight, for instance, he stopped in and set the channel to moderated, which makes it so no one can talk, until Graeme or Truper (who also have channel operator abilities, though lesser powers than Zen, who is still the channel owner) show up and fix it.

Like everyone, I appreciate all the hard work and effort that Zen has done for the Dom2 community. It is entirely up to Zen whether he wants to leave, or whether he wants to stay. But if he is not going to participate, he should turn channel ownership over to someone else, and not keep wandering through IRC just to be disruptive.

I know that there are people here who can reach him, and I'd like to ask for them to ask him to stop causing problems. Otherwise, people are going to start looking for a new home on IRC.

yeah. that's basically all that happened. zen drops by, sets everyone left to voiced, de-ops sheap, and sets the channel to moderated. this basically means the channel is currently dead, since no one who joins can speak.

unhappily, zen doesn't stay around long enough to be asked what's up. but the irc channel is a central place for a lot of dom2 players at different times, and this action is at the very least perplexing.

the channel used by a number of shrapnel forum participants is #dominions on irc.gamesurge.net.

zen seems to have now unmoderated the channel, but obviously these sorts of actions are highly problematic.

My guess is that Zen isn't doing it intentionally - he seemed to have a set of scripts that automatically did some strange things to the channel on entering, so it might have been an ircbot gone amiss.

no i don't think so. these were unique actions, like deoping sheap, and voicing us, and setting +m

he may well have just been drnka or some such though

everything seems fine and dandy at the moment

Do not be afraid. The channel is generally a friendly place, all are welcome, and troubles get resolved, one way or the other.

We even manage to get in a fair amount of Dominions 2 talk, conspire about turn-a-day games, and even play a few blitzes.
