PBW leave: looking for permanent replacements

I promise, I'll keep it short.

I am currently on a backup connection, which is 1) Unreliable 2) Slow 3) Not unlimited, meaning I am having a tough time playing my turns. I only get 50 hours a month, which is definitively not enough for me to play all my turns at PBW for a whole month. So I cannot technically play all my turns at PBW, and I am looking for permanent replacements for at least some of my games. Likewise, the situation is getting worse with every day and not better, without any kind of reliable ETA for the DSL (it should have been around August 20th. The year wasn't mentioned though, so nothing tells me it is to be set up in 2004).

The most important candidates begging for a new player are the following games:
- Adamant 013 and 014: A quick turnaround (36 hours), few players, modded game. You have a strong Empire in expansion, but both Empires can be altered quite a lot.
- Adamant 012: Turns are very quick to do (a few minutes without rushing), where the focus of my Empire is war. You have virtually no economy, but too many warships on your hands.
- Adamant 011: An Empire with a mighty economy, but an average military. Interesting for players who love economics and micromanaging (between half an hour and one hour without paying too much attention), or who have a grudge against Asmala (a war is going on with him, but there has been very little fighting).
- NGC4: A slower turnaround (72 hours), but a very big game to download. The turns themselves can go rather quickly since my Empire doesn't have the resources to build more stuff (maintenance alone is higher than income). You are fighting a suicidal war against Roanon, and your military is weak (albeit numerous).
- TGE3: The turnaround is of 60 hours, and the turns may take some time to do (not so much too; more or less half an hour on average, and possibly less if you cut down on my micromanaging). The Empire there is first, has a lot of potential, is wealthy and quite big, but has to pay attention to diplomacy to avoid being declared MEE. A nice game if you want a challenge of "You are the most powerful Empire in the galaxy, but can you keep this position?". If you are reading me Slynky, you will have to decide on whether this falls under RL reasons or not (the game went into enforced deadlines a few days ago).

These are my current games without ALPU where I feel I won't be able to keep on playing. Since I cannot stay Online for too long, I am also reluctant to ask for ALPU; it could go on for a few days needlessly. So I would prefer to find a replacement for the above games. If you are interested, please let me know so I can withdraw from the said game, and give you some information about what happened before.

If anybody has a better idea, feel free to point it out; I cannot figure out a way of making it work, and I have no other backup available for playing SEIV.

With my apologises for the hassle, and to the players in the games aforementioned,
Alneyan

You know you don't have to be Online to play your turns? Just download them, disconnect, play them, and connect to upload?

Sad to hear that great player is leaving pbw.

All I can suggest is to ask GMs to synchronize their turn start/end time. Since all game's turn durations are divisible to 12h, you can choose the time when you can upload most of your turns at once.

But of course 50h per month is not enough even for downloading your turns.

I hope you'll be back one day. I had great plans about Nilesia Lavandel http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I am assuming the 50 hrs of access is from the DSL company? It's fairly standard for DSL companies to give you a certain number of hours of dialup access in addition to your DSL. The thing is if you explain to the the situation, that you are just waiting for their peopel to hook things up, they may cut you some slack and give you unlimited dialup until the highspeed line is hooked up. It can't hurt to ask anyway.

If not, maybe they don't have these in your area, but around here there are companies that offer free dialup internet access if you use their special browser that show you lots of banner ads. It's kind of a hassle for regular surfing cause it makes your available viewing area smaller, but if all you need is access to get your email it would work.

50 hours though really should be enough time to get download and upload turns. Unless you are in a LOT of games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

No, the 50 hours are from someone else, and so it will not be possible to negociate for more. DSL might get back Online soon, or perhaps not (since there has been no change in the state of the nether planes, I guess it won't work right away).

Yes, I have only been able to get back Online this morning. Grr. *Knocks on wood for luck*

I do all my turns offline Ed, but... Well, download speed isn't all so great, and some of the players play too quickly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (I understand "too quickly" isn't a common complaint about a game)

Re: PBW leave: looking for permanent replacements

Adamant 11 would likely be a poisoned gift though. Adamant 14 is definitively a nice spot, as it is a small game with few players, and so a quick turnaround and turns that don't take a lot of time.

NGC4 is also begging for a new player; you are one of the top five Empires after all, and the galaxy is divided into a major war.
