Mine warfare and retrofitting WP/troops/etc.

A question on how to deal with mines waiting for you on the other end of a warp hole. I've had ships with mine clearing show up with the fleet at the other end but still everyone still suffers damage/destroyed despite the presence of these support ships to lead the way. I understand that you need a high tachyon scan rating to detect them but it doesn't help much going into new systems.

I've also read about the inability to upgrade existing weapon platforms, troops and such and it sux. Just another vote to enable this hopefully in a patch or something.

You have to be able to see the other end then you can set the sweepers to sweep the other end before you send them in with the rest of the fleet.
Also if there are a lot of mines you may not shot them all up, as you only kill so many per mine sweeper component.

I am for upgrading them as well, include fighters in that. All that building going to waste......

Mine sweeping is completely independent of your scan rating. When you enter a sector, if there are more mines than you have the capability to sweep, then your ships will take damage until all the mines have exploded or your entire fleet is destroyed;
if there are fewer mines, than you have the ability to sweep, then you will sweep the mine field without taking damage.

Units can easily and quickly be produced in a single turn and do not require a spaceyard or other facility on the planet. In addition, you don't pay maintenance on them. If no maintenance equals no upgrade, I think I can live with it. I do not think they will change this...

Nice heads up with the minesweeping. Just got the game 2 days ago and came across this stumbling block and didn't want to take unnecessary losses with a legendary fleet.
