Mods - the feast and the famine
It's unfortunate how few complete mods there are out there for StarFury, it's a bloody darned good game.
I've been playing P&N mod, and I've got the people's mod but it crashes whenever I try to start a game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Something about missing textures or something though I've D/L everything from the PeoplesMod site and put it where I *think* it should be (no readme.txt files detailing install paths really blows, folks). Anyway: Stores. ANY changes at all that I make, no matter how insignifigant, to the main-stores.txt file causes the game to crash. And I don't mean to the desktop... it completely LOCKS UP my system, forcing a complete hard shutdown to recover. Best to play in windows mode, as any errors will usually always be shown (and easier to get out of lock-ups)
As for The Peoples Mod, if you could get a screenshot or note the exact wording then I will be able to advise you from there |

Now I've seemingly got everything installed but I still get an error - something about pxs01.bmp in the starfury\images\effects directory being missing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif The mod didn't include any effects bitmaps, did it? |

Make the ships usable by players using other mods (or even the base game) by simple point of insertion... Make the requisite files, putting the most modest equipment available from the base game instead of the PM parts on them, so that they can be used as alternate starting ships or purchased ships. [img]/threads/images/Graemlins/icon49.gif[/img][img]/threads/images/Graemlins/PointUp.gif[/img]Include a tutorial document on how the user can cut/paste the ships into the appropriate files.[img]/threads/images/Graemlins/PointUp.gif[/img][img]/threads/images/Graemlins/icon49.gif[/img] That'd rock![img]/threads/images/Graemlins/icon43.gif[/img] I love those jump-gates, BTW. I wonder if there's a way to define where a ringed gate is (in, say, well used systems) and where it's just a normal wormhole (for 'hidden' and unmapped systems). |

Well I can write a short document on how to install the ships into the main game. Most of them work fine with the main game with no modifications. Some of them like Dragon Federation vessels require some modification because they use Shard Cannons and Crystalline Torpedoes which both doesn't exist in the main game. However I'm not into doing two copies of each ship's starting components. I have plenty of work as it is.
Also tell me suggestions on a race you want to see in TPM. There's still one color available: brown. Is there someone from the Se4 you'd like to see? Sergetti, Human and Jraenar are unavailable. Descendants of Jraenars are already in the mod as well as Sergetti. Humans are also already in the mod. |
