still dont get it .......Rate

Last night I put up a post about rate...called [Rate of the Construction]... I was tired and it all made since. But this morning it all faded to a "what the hell was he talking about” I got the part about how mineral extractors produce 800 and more upon upgrade and I got the part about the construction time. I even got the part about the value. Can someone now put it all together to how the numbers work. How the resource production of a planet is made up (calculated). I ran the numbers with bonuses and it doesn’t come out right. you can ask me questions about , "if am running a mod", "does my civ have bonuses" ...etc. but before you do just answer the One about the formula that is used to calculate the numbers . Examples would be welcome. If you can help as newbie approach this would help... with flash cards and walkthrough.

A nice formula has been given somewhere to calculate your planetary production, but I am no good at maths, so I will only explain how to calculate it. In the meantime, I fully expect three other posters to beat me to it.

- Your facilities have a basic production value. 800 minerals in the case of Mineral Extraction I.
- Your planetary value multiplies this value. So, in the case of a planet with 120% mineral value, you will have 960 mineral production.
- Your Empire may have bonuses to mineral production. Having 110% in this field would result in a +10% bonus, making your 800 facility produce 880 minerals.
- Special facilities increase resource production in a given planet/system. At the highest technology level, it can give a hefty +45% bonus to mineral production, making the output of a Mineral Extraction I 1,160 minerals.
- Happiness increases resource production as well. At Jubilant level (the best), production will be increase by 20%, making the same facility produce 960 minerals.
- Lastly, high levels of population increase production. It is why your homeworld will produce more per facility than your colony worlds.

Now the amusing question, does all the above multiply or add? I have never been positive about it, but then I usually have more than enough minerals in storage. I think some (all?) multiply, but don't quote me on that.

Based on the formula in th Newbie FAQ:

(Extraction Facility value) x (planet’s resource type %) x (empire’s racial %) x (Planet Robotoid Facility %) x (System Robotoid Facility %) x (planet’s happiness %) x (population %) = total mineral resources committed to your empire for that facility.

Construction rate is as follows:

(rate of SY facility OR 2000 if no SY is present) x (empire’s racial %) x (population %) = total build rate

Note that a modifier of 10% means you multiply by 1.1.

Note also that racial % is the sum of Construction Aptitude, advanced racial traits (Hardy Industirialists) and cultural modifier.

If it still isn't making sense after these explanations, maybe you should post a specific example. Let us see what numbers you are running when you run your numbers...

I can't get the figures to work either. A homeworld miner I produces 1652 minerals. The relevant values are as follow:

- 4,000 million inhabitants (+50% production according to the game)
- 120% mineral aptitude, minus 5 because of my Berserker culture, making it 115%.
- Happy planet, so +10%
- Planetary value of 118%
- No planetary/system facility improving production.

So it should be 1791 minerals according to the formula, but both the planetary value and the Empire balance screen says 1652.

It doesn't really bother me, but I would like to know what I am missing here.

I didn't look too closely at the formula at first... but, some of those factors should be added together before multiplying. Not everything is multiplied. I don't recall which though.

My trusted calculator eventually stumbled on the correct order. The basic formula should be as follow:

(Extraction Facility value) x (planet’s resource type %) + [(empire’s racial %) x (planet’s happiness %) x (population %)] = total mineral resources committed to your empire for that facility.

Planetary values alone multiply with basic production, and all the rest adds together. I do not know what role the special facilities have however.

I think that the robotoids multiply after the racial bonuses are multiplied, and each is separate (system vs. planetary).

Mine doesn't...I just glanced at the calculations. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
