Error

I've encountered an error new to me that causes a CTD.

'Range Check Error'

Any idea what might cause that? It happens when I'm coming up on a battle in progress. [Edit] Where I am does not seem to matter so much. When there's a fight it's 50/50 I'll get dumped to the desktop.

I'm using my modified P&N mod, so it's definately something I've done. I just need an idea where to look to correct it.

Re: Error

range check error is usually caused by a call for something that is out of range (ie asking for 300 planets when 255 is max)

Ouch...

So I've input something that goes beyond the limits of the game's internal math.
Difficult to track down, in other words. Hmmmm. It always crops up in fights, so, likely something (I hope) that has to do with weapons.

Is there a max range on weapons? Max/min other things in the component entries?

Re: Error

I think I fixed it. I shortened the ranges on one weapon I found that had a range over 400, and now the error seems to have gone away.

Re: Error

That can't be the only source of your error, since I've had weapons with ranges in the thousands that worked fine..

Re: Error

Perhaps it was something else and I 'accidentally' corrected it. All I know is that it's not happening any more... for the time being.

Weapons with ranges above 1000? What ever for... that's a good chunk of the map! It was a beam/torpedo, right? I've discovered that bolt weapons self destruct after X-time, regardless of 'effective range'. (I'll learn how to modify that eventually).

Egh.... I didn't manage to get rid of it, the range check error is still there.

Still don't have a clue what's causing it, either. :/

Re: Error

The weapon range was me attempting to be sneaky with something.

Re: Error

The range check error comes and goes at very odd times. If I encounter it I reload and just wait until the fighting is over.. that usually gets me around it.

As for weapons range - any time I set it over 400 the game gets unstable and the error comes all the time.

Other than that my little personal mod works quite well - and it's pretty balanced. I'm still having my butt handed to me on the highest difficulty setting. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
