Annoying missile dance
 
Make the missile dance less of a factor. Start the game with point defense (you and the computer).
Change data\TechArea.txt for point defense from the existing lines about 3/4 of the way down to:


Name := Point-Defense Weapons
Group := Weapon Technology
Description := Weapons which specifically target and destroy incoming seekers.
Maximum Level := 5
Level Cost := 5000
Start Level := 1
Raise Level := 0
Racial Area := 0
Unique Area := 0
Can Be Removed := True
Number of Tech Req := 0

???? I have not had any problem with them!
I'm not to sure about getting into the files either (I can be dangerius)

My AI_research and AI_Design Creation file mod incorporates this modification (and a modified TechAreas file) along with a boost to the number of point defence that AI ships pack - eg Destroyers pack 4-5 PD, light cruisers 6 PD, cruisers 7-8 PD.
Check it out (in the Mods/Archive section)and try and missile dance against those suckers!!!
