Troops
 
Quick Question not sure if the topic has come up, I searched the Last 10+ days of Posts and didnt see it asked so here it goes. What is the consensus for best weapons for ground units? How does the range affect the combat if at all? Do shields seem to work, I tried shielded and unshielded troops and didnt notice a reduction in damage even with small shield III on the each troop. Any imput would be appreciated as I like to swoop in and take planets whole.

dunno for sure but a combo of best cannon and missile (troop-size) seems to work best for me..usually have even mix of gun and missile troops do the invasion..

i don't think their is enough groundcombat going on for people to get experience on it.

with the new colonize settings that could change though 8)

Range and combat sensors do have an effect.

There is some simulated battle conditions, and it works somewhat like strategic combat.

For deciding whether shields are worth it:
Just take your damage, and multiply by hitpoints to get a battle rating. Try to maximize that for best effect, but add combat sensors to your design if possible.

In general, treat it like a ship that'll be doing 'point-blank' strategy in strategic combat.
