How do you get your usable components on to your usable components window of the main control window?

They appear there by default if they are in your hold (they don't appear if they are mounted on your ship).

Consumables (hull, shield, energy) appear in the bottom bar automatically unless they're damaged (recovered cargo) once you put them in your cargo. You can't manually place anything in the consumable cargo bar.

The best place to store them is in cargo hold #3, that way they don't interfere with your regular cargo when you're trying to buy/sell (default hold is #1).
