4 years ago this month I registered here, and IIRC, there were some different old forums before that? I do not remember too clearly, but I do recall that SEIV was not out yet when I first found the shrapnel site

Anyways, I was just thinking how cool it is that so many of the same old faces are still here. Geo, Atrocities, Belisarius, and the rest of the old grognards. Mind you, this is not to slight the newer members of the community in any way. I am just saying that such continuity is very unusual in an Online game community.

And I like it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Indeed. It is mostly because there have not been any new viable alternatives for Space Opera diehards in the Last several years, so we all have to stay with SE4. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif And no, GalCiv doesn't count, as it is a completely different genre of game.

The game I would most rate a true "Space Opera" was an old board-game by SPI (Simulations Publications, Inc) called Freedom in the Galaxy.

It actually involved heroes, several of them, and the heroes could undertake missions during your turn, in a separate phase from the moving of fleets and armies. In addition there were political considerations, with each planet's politics rated on a sliding scale from imperial sympathy to rebel sympathy.

It even had a Rebel Secret Base http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

And Imperial Atrocities http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif
To be honest, it was pretty campy. One of the imperial characters, supposedly an illegitimate niece of the emperor, was named "Thysa Kimbo". Another of the imperials was of a dog-headed race, and was named "Barca" (groan)

Possum, did you register for Armies of Armaggedon? That is why I original registered and "stumbled" on to SE4 several months later!

Hey TampaGamer! Ever felt like reviving that old sound mod of yours that hardly anyone ever seems to use anymore? I have all the sounds from Master of Orion II and I think they'd make a fine addition to any sounds collection! Gotta love the stellar converter! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

(You DID intend that mod to be used by other mods to draw on for their custom sounds, right? Just like the Imagemod? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

He gave me permission to include it in that Sound Pack we were talking about... too bad only 3 people had any sounds... Guess I should make it anyways, one of these days. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
